Rensselaer Central Middle School offers a wide variety of activities in which a student can become involved. Our students are encouraged to support and/or participate in some of the special activities being offered here. It is important that students listen to the announcements during Advisory for important information regarding these activities!
Band
Band is offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who have the interest and desire to play a musical instrument. It is constructed as a three-year course of study with emphasis toward continuing in the High School Band. Band is a cumulative course and student participation is crucial to the success of the band. Practice outside of class is necessary in order to see improvement. Band concerts are presented during the school year for both the student body and general public. Students seeking additional information regarding Middle School Band are asked to see the Band Director.
Choir
Choir is offered to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are interested in singing. Rehearsals are a combination of learning experiences and practice. These rehsearsals are used to prepare for concerts, contests, and drama productions. Students are encouraged to remain in choir for the entire school year. students seeking additional information regarding Middle School Choir are asked to see the Choir Director.
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society has been in existence for more than 50 years. Eligibility for members is based on scholarship, citizenship, leadership, service and character. Members must be either a 7th or 8th grade student and meet all eligibility requirements. Membership is an honor bestowed by the faculty and review of student information does not guarantee selection. Membership enables talented students to work together for the benefit of the school and community. Student Council

I-News
I-News is the group of students responsible for the RCMS daily announcements and the school recycling program. Students use their advisory time to present the announcements to the student body and perform weekly recycling duities. I-News is open to 7th and 8th grade students. Student seeking additional information are asked to see an I-News Faculty Sponsor.
